As children start to become young adults they take on more responsibilities. The question is how many responsibilities should they take on? Chores can be a great way to increase responsibilities in kids. Giving them set responsibilities can make them more aware of what they need to do and what is expected in the real world. I think that teens and children should have chores but to an extent as to not over stress them.

Chores show teens how to care for their own future houses.  They also give them responsibility which shows them how to discipline themselves. If kids didn’t have chores they wouldn’t know how to do either. When they grow up or live on their own it would be a shock because they would not have had responsibilities.  Holding them accountable for their chores can increase a sense of themselves as responsible and actually make them more responsible. Children will feel more capable for having met their obligations and completed their tasks. This is why I think that chores are necessary to a child’s growing and learning development.

However chores can also be detrimental. Having too many chores can stress teens out. Teens are also responsible for school or jobs if they have one. Not to mention the daily pains and struggles of growing up can make it hard for teens to have time for excess chores. Chores can be helpful but too many can distract kids or make them rebell. This is why we have to be careful about the limit of how much kids should do.

Chores can be a great tool to help kids grow up. However it can also be a stressor in a teens life. It can be both positive and negative. The key is to find the perfect balance so your child has responsibilities befitting their age. This is why I think chores are good in moderation.
