Super Bowl 51 happened and it is trending around the country. Some attention it’s gained is for the commercials, the Patriots comeback victory, Lady Gaga, and the final touchdown that secured New England its 5th Super Bowl title. If you didn’t watch the game, running-back James White made the winning score by running through the plain (the line on the touchdown), but that is where the controversy begins, as many think he didn’t make it.

According to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, “For it to be a touchdown the ball must go over the line and if both feet, one knee, or one elbow must go down before the ball goes over the Touchdown Line it isn’t considered a Touchdown.”

Many people in the country and in the NRG Stadium (host of Super Bowl 51) believe that James White’s knee was down before the ball reached over the line.

As much as I hate to say it, because I am a Pittsburgh Steeler fan, but James White did indeed get the touchdown.

If you look at multiple angles from the touchdown you need to look for when White’s knees go down. You can see the knees were down and that should be the end of the play, but the deciding factor will be the placement of the ball.

It is hard to see the ball, as you multiple players get in the camera’s view to help or stop White from getting the touchdown. If you look a little closely you can see White’s arm holding the ball, and it was over the line.

The ball has to go over the white line even if it is barely the tip of the ball. Even if the ball didn’t go in, the referees would have to review the play to officially be a touchdown. You can say that the referees make bad calls, but this wasn’t a bad call, this was the best call of the game.

We can still argue about this play for the next 10 years, but he we have to get something straight: The Patriots defeated the Falcons in the Super Bowl and that play is now in the past, as controversial as it is.
